Biobanking

Quality and Standards for Responsible Research

The Working Group Biobanking promotes collaboration among the German Centers for Health Research (DZGs) on biobanking in clinical research settings.

Aims of the working group are:

  • Establishment of a network of all active DZG biobanking stakeholders
  • Alignment and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Maintenance of the highest quality in biobanking
  • Improvement of the use of biosamples within and between DZGs
  • Representation of DZG biobanking nationally and internationally

The quality-assured collection, processing, and storage of biosamples is an important prerequisite for medical translational research. Biobanks for tissue and liquid samples represent an essential infrastructure of the DZG. They ensure the ethically and legally compliant usability and secondary usage of the collected biosamples.

The working group is composed of representatives from the associated biobanks of all DZGs.
