German Center for Lung Research

Together for Healthy Lungs

To date, for most respiratory diseases there are only therapies that provide symptomatic relief, but no cure. Through research into causes and disease mechanisms, the German Center for Lung Research (DZL) is therefore developing new approaches and options for prevention, diagnosis and therapy of lung diseases. At five sites, the focus is on research into eight disease areas, applying the entire "bench-to-bedside" translational chain.

Basic science findings are applied to the design and conduct of clinical trials and in patient care. Clinical needs, in turn, become questions that basic scientists address in the DZL. Many researchers belong to several disease areas, so that ideas and findings can be optimally linked across the areas and quickly transferred into application.
